CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS MINISTRIES -

JESUS IS JEHOVAH (YHWH)

Jesus, the eternal Son, second person of the Trinity:  “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth, Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age”  A-men  (Matthew 28:18-20).

“Yet I am the LORD (YHWH) your God…and you shall know no God but Me; for there is no Savior besides Me” (Hosea 13:4).

looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13).

Note:  This is a developing document, please excuse!

All Scripture quotations are taken from the New King James Version unless note otherwise.

I will be looking into the matter of the above Scripture reading by an analysis of the Scriptures, reflecting from OT and NT, as well as from many Christian expositors on the various Scriptures listed below.

A short word regarding the compiling of these Scriptures and expositors.  I felt inclined to compile this documentation after an encounter with some who professed to be born-again believer’s in which the immediate topic was:  “Is the Holy Spirit a person in the Godhead?”  Also, the comment was made after questioning them if they believed that Jesus is God, the reply back was:   “I believe Jesus is God, but not Almighty God.”  As you can understand by the above statements I felt like I was debating cultists in defense of my blessed Lord Jesus’ divinity—who is God in the flesh.

Although the mystery of the holy Trinity is quite profound and incomprehensible.  It is apprehendable as to true believers, and as the only sound interpretation in the panoply (the whole) of Scripture to us finite creatures. When correctly exegeting the Scriptures, the only sound formula which will harmonize with the whole of Scripture is that of the Trinity.

You might have heard the many deceptive and clever attempts from those in the “kingdom of the cults” interpretations of the Godhead.  But they all fall short of the true God revealed in the Holy Scripture.  When the apostle Paul said:  “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (II Tim. 2:15 KJV) he was not writing these words to ignore, but to exhort us in the diligent study so you know God and His Word.

For those who will not believe the Trinity because they can’t understand it; here are a few Scriptures to ponder:

“Have you not known?  Have you not heard?  The everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints or is weary.  His understanding is unsearchable” (Isaiah 40:28).

“The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law” (Deuteronomy 29:29).

“Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!” (Romans 11:33).

“Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite” (Psalm 147:5).

“Can you search out the deep things of God?  Can you find out the limits of the Almighty?  They are higher than heaven what can you do?  Deeper than Sheol what can you know?  Their measure is longer than the earth and broader than the sea” (Job 11:7-8).

In one of the previous paragraphs you will remember there was the quote of:  “We believe Jesus is God, but not Almighty God.”  I hope to be able to share some quotes from R. C. Sprouls book “The Mystery of the Holy Spirit” in one of the chapters he shows us what the heretics Arius and Sablius both said they believed Jesus was God, but they meant something completely different.  Dr. James R. White's book "The Forgotten Trinity" is excellent on this issue too.  Both books and several other resources are recommended at the bottom of this piece.

Note:  Pay careful attention to A.T. Robertson's comments on some of the passages below; for he is known as one the greatest Greek Scholar's to have walked the planet.  In addition, pay careful attention to Dr. James R. White as well; Dr. White is one of the premier Christian Apologist/Scholars in the Church today.

Matthew 1:21-23 “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.” So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”

Mark 1:2-3 As it is written in the Prophets: “Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, Who will prepare Your way before You.”  (3)“The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the LORD; Make His paths straight.’” (Cross-reference to Isaiah 40:3; a prophecy of Jehovah’s path that John the Baptist & Jesus fulfilled—Jesus is LORD—YHWH.)

Mark 2:5-7 "When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven you."  (6) And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts,  (7) "Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?" (cf:  Luke 5:21).

The Prologue of the Gospel of John by Dr. James R. White http://aomin.org/prologuejohn.html

John 1:1  “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”

{In the beginning} (en archêi). Archê is definite, though anarthrous like our at home, in town, and the similar Hebrew _be reshith_ in #Ge 1:1. But Westcott notes that here John carries our thoughts beyond the beginning of creation in time to eternity. There is no argument here to prove the existence of God any more than in Genesis. It is simply assumed. Either God exists and is the Creator of the universe as scientists like Eddington and Jeans assume or matter is eternal or it has come out of nothing. {Was} (ên). Three times in this sentence John uses this imperfect of eimi to be which conveys no idea of origin for God or for the Logos, simply continuous existence. Quite a different verb (egeneto, became) appears in verse #14 for the beginning of the Incarnation of the Logos. See the distinction sharply drawn in #8:58 "before Abraham came (genesthai) I am" (eimi, timeless existence). {The Word} (ho logos). Logos is from legô, old word in Homer to lay by, to collect, to put words side by side, to speak, to express an opinion. Logos is common for reason as well as speech. Heraclitus used it for the principle which controls the universe. The Stoics employed it for the soul of the world (anima mundi) and Marcus Aurelius used spermatikos logos for the generative principle in nature. The Hebrew _memra_ was used in the Targums for the manifestation of God like the Angel of Jehovah and the Wisdom of God in #Pr 8:23. Dr. J. Rendel Harris thinks that there was a lost wisdom book that combined phrases in Proverbs and in the Wisdom of Solomon which John used for his Prologue (_The Origin of the _Prologue to St. John_, p. 43) which he has undertaken to reproduce. At any rate John's standpoint is that of the Old Testament and not that of the Stoics nor even of Philo who uses the term Logos, but not John's conception of personal pre-existence. The term Logos is applied to Christ only in #Joh 1:1,14; Re 19:13; 1Jo 1:1 "concerning the Word of life" (an incidental argument for identity of authorship). There is a possible personification of "the Word of God" in #Heb 4:12. But the personal pre-existence of Christ is taught by Paul (#2Co 8:9; Php 2:6; Col 1:17) and in #Heb 1:2 and in #Joh 17:5. This term suits John's purpose better than sophia (wisdom) and is his answer to the Gnostics who either denied the actual humanity of Christ (Docetic Gnostics) or who separated the aeon Christ from the man Jesus (Cerinthian Gnostics). The pre-existent Logos "became flesh" (sarx egeneto, verse #14) and by this phrase John answered both heresies at once. {With God} (pros ton theon). Though existing eternally with God the Logos was in perfect fellowship with God. Pros with the accusative presents a plane of equality and intimacy, face to face with each other. In #1Jo 2:1 we have a like use of pros: "We have a Paraclete with the Father" (paraklêton echomen pros ton patera). See prosôpon pros prosôpon (face to face, #1Co 13:12), a triple use of pros. There is a papyrus example of pros in this sense to gnôston tês pros allêlous sunêtheias, "the knowledge of our intimacy with one another" (M.&M., _Vocabulary_) which answers the claim of Rendel Harris, _Origin of Prologue_, p. 8) that the use of pros here and in #Mr 6:3 is a mere Aramaism. It is not a classic idiom, but this is _Koiné_, not old Attic. In #Joh 17:5 John has para soi the more common idiom. {And the Word was God} (kai theos ên ho logos). By exact and careful language John denied Sabellianism by not saying ho theos ên ho logos. That would mean that all of God was expressed in ho logos and the terms would be interchangeable, each having the article. The subject is made plain by the article (ho logos) and the predicate without it (theos) just as in #Joh 4:24 pneuma ho theos can only mean "God is spirit," not "spirit is God." So in #1Jo 4:16 ho theos agapê estin can only mean "God is love," not "love is God" as a so-called Christian scientist would confusedly say. For the article with the predicate see Robertson, _Grammar_, pp. 767f. So in #Joh 1:14 ho Logos sarx egeneto, "the Word became flesh," not "the flesh became Word." Luther argues that here John disposes of Arianism also because the Logos was eternally God, fellowship of Father and Son, what Origen called the Eternal Generation of the Son (each necessary to the other). Thus in the Trinity we see personal fellowship on an equality.  A.T. Robertson.  Word Pictures In The New Testament.

John 1:1 Meaning and Translation by Dr. James R. White http://aomin.org/JOHN1_1.html

John 1:2  “The same was in the beginning with God.”

John 1:3  “All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.”

John 1:14  “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”

John 1:18  “No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.”

John 5:18  “Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.”

John 8:24  “I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.”

8:24, 28 I am He.  Here Jesus applies Old Testament language for Yahweh to himself (Ex. 3:14, Is.43:10), an identification that becomes unambiguous in verse 58.  The New Geneva Study Bible, R. C. Sproul is General Editor.

v. 24  Here is the bottom line!  If ye believe not that I am; (Exod. 3:13-14) the true God, God manifested in the flesh, the true Messiah, the only Savior of sinners, the one and only Mediator between God and men, Prophet, Priest and King (Isa. 9:6) ‘ye shall die in your sins!’  This test plainly teaches the impossibility of salvation for those who do not receive and believe in Jesus Christ as God and Saviour (Isa. 45:21-22).  Bible Class Commentary by Henry T. Mahan.

John 8:28  “Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.”

John 8:58  Jesus said unto them, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.”

{Before Abraham was} (prin Abraam genesthai). Usual idiom with prin in positive sentence with infinitive (second aorist middle of ginomai) and the accusative of general reference, "before coming as to Abraham," "before Abraham came into existence or was born." {I am} (egô eimi). Undoubtedly here Jesus claims eternal existence with the absolute phrase used of God. The contrast between genesthai (entrance into existence of Abraham) and eimi (timeless being) is complete. See the same contrast between en in #1:1 and egeneto in #1:14. See the contrast also in #Ps 90:2 between God (ei, art) and the mountains (genêthênai). See the same use of eimi in #Joh 6:20; 9:9; 8:24,28; 18:6.  A.T. Robertson’s Word Pictures.

8:58  “…which is to be understood of the deity, eternity, and immutability of Christ, and refers to the passage in #Ex 3:14. "I am that I am--I am hath sent me unto you", the true Jehovah; and so Christ was before Abraham was in being, the everlasting I am, the eternal God, which is, and was, and is to come…”  John Gill’s NT notes, refer to John 8:58.

8:58  “…I AM…Here Jesus declared Himself to be Yahweh, i.e., the Lord of the OT.  Basic to the expression are such passages as Ex. 3:14, Duet. 32:29; Is. 41:4; 43:10 where God declared Himself to be the eternally pre-existent God who revealed Himself in the OT to the Jews…. John MacArthur, Jr.  The MacArthur Study Bible.

vv 57-59  Our Lord speaks here of His eternal existence.  Christ is the everlasting I AM, the eternal God, who is, who was and is to come (Exod. 3:14)…. Henry T. Mahan  Bible Class Commentary.

Purpose and Meaning of "Ego Eimi" in the Gospel of John:  In Reference to the Deity of Chirst by Dr. James R. White http://aomin.org/EGO.html

John 10:11, 14 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep…I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own.” (Jesus claims to be the Shepherd including calling His disciples His sheep; compare Psalm 23 Jehovah the Shepherd).

John 10:30  "I and My Father are one."

John 10:33  The Jews answered Him, saying, "For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God."

John 12:41  “These things Isaiah said when he saw His glory and spoke of Him.”

“…when he saw his glory, and spake of him; when he saw, in a visionary way, the glory of the Messiah in the temple, and the angels covering their faces with their wings at the sight of him; and when he spake of him as the King, the Lord of hosts, whom he had seen, #Isa 6:1-10, from whence it is clear that he had respect to the Jews in the times of the Messiah. The prophet says in #Isa 6:1 that he "saw the Lord": the Targumist renders it, "I saw", yyd arqy ta, "the glory of Jehovah"; and in #Isa 6:5 he says, "mine eyes have seen the King", Jehovah, Zebaot, the Lord of hosts; which the Chaldee paraphrase renders, "mine eyes have seen", rqy ta, "the glory" of the Shekinah, the King of the world, the Lord of hosts. Agreeably to which our Lord says here, that he saw his glory, the glory of his majesty, the glory of his divine nature, the train of his divine perfections, filling the temple of the human nature; and he spoke of him as the true Jehovah, the Lord of hosts; and which therefore is a very clear and strong proof of the proper divinity of Christ….”  John Gill.  John Gill’s NT notes, refer to John 12:41.

12:41  “Isaiah…saw His glory and spoke of Him.  This is a reverence to Isaiah 6:1….  John unambiguously ties Jesus to God or Yahweh of the OT….”  The MacArthur Study Bible.

12:39-41  “…Isaiah’s sight of God’s glory is described in Isaiah 6:1.  It was Jehovah whom Isaiah saw, who is Christ Jesus.  He recorded faithfully what he saw.”  Henry T. Mahan.  Bible Class Commentary.

12:37-41  ‘May we read from Isaiah, chapter six?’  He read the chapter and then asked the congregation to turn with him to the Gospel of John 12:37-41.  “Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus’ glory and spoke about him.”  This last verse,’ said Muller, ‘settles the matter, that what we were reading in Isaiah 6 all refers to the glory of our adorable Lord Jesus Christ.  In the whole of divine testimony we do not find a single portion which speaks more of His majesty and glory.  We will now read it once more verse by verse, in reference to our precious, adorable Lord Jesus.’  George Muller in Roger Steers’ book George Muller “Delighted in God” biography, PP 226-227.

John 13:19 “From now on I am telling you before it comes to pass, so that when it does occur, you may believe that I am He.”  (Cross-reference Isaiah 43:10.)

John 14:9  Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, 'Show us the Father'?”  (Jesus is not the Father as the Oneness modalism heresy teaches, but the image or refection of the Father, cf:  Colossians 1:15-17; Hebrews 1:1-3.)

John 17:5  “And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.”  (Cross-reference to Isaiah 42:8, 48:11; John 12:23, 13:31-32; Acts 3:13.)

John 20:28  And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”

{My Lord and my God} (Ho kurios mou kai ho theos mou).
Not exclamation, but address, the vocative case though the form of the nominative, a very common thing in the _Koiné_. Thomas was wholly convinced and did not hesitate to address the Risen Christ as Lord and God. And Jesus accepts the words and praises Thomas for so doing.  A.T. Robertson.  Word Pictures In The New Testament.

Acts 20:28  “Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.”

{With his own blood} (dia tou haimatos tou idiou). Through the agency of (dia) his own blood. Whose blood? If tou theou (Aleph B Vulg.) is correct, as it is, then Jesus is here called "God" who shed his own blood for the flock. It will not do to say that Paul did not call Jesus God, for we have #Ro 9:5; Col 2:9; Tit 2:13 where he does that very thing, besides #Col 1:15-20; Php 2:5-11.  A.T. Robertson.  Word Pictures In The New Testament.

Romans 9:5  “of whom are the fathers and from whom, according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, the eternally blessed God. Amen.”

{Of whom} (ex hôn). Fourth relative clause and here with ex and the ablative. {Christ} (ho Christos). The Messiah. {As concerning the flesh} (to kata sarka). Accusative of general reference, "as to the according to the flesh." Paul limits the descent of Jesus from the Jews to his human side as he did in #1:3. {Who is over all, God blessed for ever} (ho on epi pantôn theos eulogêtos). A clear statement of the deity of Christ following the remark about his humanity. This is the natural and the obvious way of punctuating the sentence. To make a full stop after sarka (or colon) and start a new sentence for the doxology is very abrupt and awkward. See #Ac 20:28; Tit 2:13 for Paul's use of theos applied to Jesus Christ.  A.T. Robertson.  Word Pictures In The New Testament.

Philppians 2:5-11  “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.  8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.  9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (cf:  Isaiah 45:23.)

Ver. 6  [Who being in the form of God, &c.] The father; being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person. This form is to be understood, not of any shape or figure of him; for as such is not to be seen, it is not to be supposed of him; or any accidental form, for there are no accidents in God, whatever is in God, is God; he is nothing but nature and essence, he is the to on, the Jehovah, I am what I am; and so is his son, which is, and was, and is to come, the fountain of all created beings….  John Gill.  John Gill’s NT notes.

Colossians 1:15-17  “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.  17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.” (O.T. Trinity in creation, Gen. 1:1-2, 26-27; Isaiah 44:24.)

Colossians 2:9  For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form” (NASB).

“{For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily} (hoti en autôi katoikei pân to plêrôma tês theotêtos sômatikôs). In this sentence, given as the reason (hoti, because) for the preceding claim for Christ as the measure of human knowledge Paul states the heart of his message about the Person of Christ. There dwells (at home) in Christ not one or more aspects of the Godhead (the very essence of God, from theos, deitas) and not to be confused with theiotes in #Ro 1:20 (from theios, the {quality} of God,_divinitas_), here only in N.T. as theiotês only in #Ro 1:20. The distinction is observed in Lucian and Plutarch. Theiotês occurs in the papyri and inscriptions. Paul here asserts that "all the plêrôma of the Godhead," not just certain aspects, dwells in Christ and in bodily form (sômatikôs, late and rare adverb, in Plutarch, inscription, here only in N.T.), dwells now in Christ in his glorified humanity (#Php 2:9-11), "the body of his glory" (tôi sômati tês doxês). The fulness of the God-head was in Christ before the Incarnation (#Joh 1:1,18; Php 2:6), during theIncarnation (#Joh 1:14,18; 1Jo 1:1-3). It was the Son of God who came in the likeness of men (#Php 2:7). Paul here disposes of the Docetic theory that Jesus had no human body as well as the Cerinthian separation between the man Jesus and the aeon Christ. He asserts plainly the deity and the humanity of Jesus Christ in corporeal form” Word Pictures In The New Testament by A.T. Robertson.

THEOTETOS:  THE MEANING AT COLOSSIANS 2:9 by Dr. James R. White http://aomin.org/theotetos.html

I Timothy 3:16  “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:  God was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Preached among the Gentiles, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory.”

Titus 2:13  “Looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.”

Granville Sharp's Rule:  Titus 2:13 and II Peter 1:1 by Dr. James R. White http://aomin.org/GRANVILL.html

Hebrews 1:6-12  “But when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says:  "Let all the angels of God worship Him."7 And of the angels He says:  "Who makes His angels spirits And His ministers a flame of fire."  8 But to the Son He says:  "Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom.  9 You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness more than Your companions."  10 And:  "You, LORD, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands.  11 They will perish, but You remain; and they will all grow old like a garment; 12 Like a cloak You will fold them up, and they will be changed.  But You are the same, and Your years will not fail.” (It’s clear when comparing Psalm 102:25-27 with Hebrews 1:10-12 that Jesus is YHWH, even in the NWT—JW’s Bible.)

II Peter 1:1  “SIMON Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ”

Our God and Savior Jesus Christ.  Since one definite article governs both nouns in the Greek (lit. “the God of us and Savior”), this phrase ascribes deity to Jesus.  The New Geneva Study Bible.

“The title our God and Savior Jesus Christ is one of the many in the NT which indicate the absolute deity of the Lord Jesus.  If He is not God, then these words have no meaning.”  The Believer’s Bible Commentary by William MacDonald.

Revelation 1:8  “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” (Cross-reference to Rev. 2:8, 22:13; Isaiah 41:4, 44:6, 48:12.)

#4-8 There can be no true peace, where there is not true grace; and where grace goeth before, peace will follow. This blessing is in the name of God, of the Holy Trinity, it is an act of adoration. The Father is first named; he is described as the Jehovah who is, and who was, and who is to come, eternal, unchangeable. The Holy Spirit is called the seven spirits, the perfect Spirit of God, in whom there is a diversity of gifts and operations. The Lord Jesus Christ was from eternity, a Witness to all the counsels of God. He is the First-born from the dead, who will by his own power raise up his people. He is the Prince of the kings of the earth; by him their counsels are overruled, and to him they are accountable. Sin leaves a stain of guilt and pollution upon the soul. Nothing can fetch out this stain but the blood of Christ; and Christ shed his own blood to satisfy Divine justice, and purchase pardon and purity for his people. Christ has made believers kings and priests to God and his Father. As such they overcome the world, mortify sin, govern their own spirits, resist Satan, prevail with God in prayer, and shall judge the world. He has made them priests, given them access to God, enabled them to offer spiritual and acceptable sacrifices, and for these favours they are bound to ascribe to him dominion and glory for ever. He will judge the world. Attention is called to that great day when all will see the wisdom and happiness of the friends of Christ, and the madness and misery of his enemies. Let us think frequently upon the second coming of Christ. He shall come, to the terror of those who wound and crucify him by apostasy: he shall come, to the astonishment of the whole world of the ungodly. He is the Beginning and the End; all things are from him and for him; he is the Almighty; the same eternal and unchanged One. And if we would be numbered with his saints in glory everlasting, we must now willingly submit to him, receive him, and honour him as a saviour, who we believe will come to be our Judge. Alas, that there should be many, who would wish never to die, and that there should not be a day of judgment!”  Matthew Henry’s concise commentary.

1:8 “{6} I am {f} Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.  (6) A confirmation of the greeting earlier, taken from the words of God himself: in which he affirms his operation in every single creature, the immutable eternity that is in himself, and his omnipotence in all things: and concludes in the unity of his own essence, that Trinity of persons which was spoken of before.  (f) I am he before whom there was nothing, indeed, by whom everything that is made, was made: and I shall remain though everything else should perish” Geneva Notes.

1:8  “There is a change of speaker.  The Lord Jesus introduces Himself as the Alpha and the Omega (the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet), the Beginning and the End.  He spans time and eternity, and exhausts the vocabulary of excellence.  He is the source and goal of creation, and it is He who began and will end the divine program in the world.  He is and was and is to come, eternal in His being and the Almighty in power.”  The Believer’s Bible Commentary by William MacDonald.

The Trinity raises Jesus from the dead:  The Father raises Jesus, Acts 3:27; I Thess. 1:10.  Jesus raises Himself, John 2:19-21.  The Spirit raises Jesus, Romans 8:11.  God raises Christ, Acts 17:31.  Yet One God.
